Objective

The foundation Dutch Franz Kafka Circle aims at promoting the study in the Netherlands and Flanders of Kafka's work, life and times.

Activities

To realise this general objective the Kafka Circle organizes at least once a year, possibly in cooperation with other (literary) organisations, a national, regional or local colloquium, also open to non-members. Dutch, Flemish and foreign speakers may be invited. This on behalf of a broad audience: not only the academically interested but also the 'pure' Kafka amateur.
In this context one may think of e.g. scholars and publicists and also those who are in another way engaged in Kafka's work and person, like illustrators, photographers, composers and movie and stage directors.

The organisation of member meetings, movie, theater or musical performances and exhibitions are possible.

International relations

Further the Kafka Circle aims at establishing and maintaining relations with Kafka societies abroad (Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, USA, South Korea, Japan).

Publications

The papers read at the annual colloquia and at other occasions, together with other articles, reviews and bibliographical material, will be published in a new series, the Kafka-Cahier. One of the subjects will be the reception (reviews and such, influence) of Kafka's work in the Netherlands and Flanders. The first volume appeared mid-November 1995 and contains two papers by Prof.Dr. Horst Steinmetz (Leiden, NL) and Prof.Dr. Jacques De Visscher (Ghent, B).

The Kafka Circle also publishes a quarterly, the Kafka-Katern [Kafka Quire], one of the two periodicals in the world exclusively devoted to Kafka. It brings articles, information from the Circle itself and its sister-societies abroad, news, some regular features, the quotation collection >>Ganzevoetjes<< [>>Little Goose-feet<<], further reviews and a bibliographical section with new publications by and on Kafka, book announcements, clippings, etc..

  • If you have information to be published in the Katern, please send it to the editors. Our own requests for information you'll find on the Call page.

Membership costs € 35 (students € 25, with copy of certificate of enrollment) per calendar year. It includes: the Kafka-Katern, reduction on the admission to gatherings organized by the Kafka Circle and reduction on some publications, e.g. the Kafka-Cahier.
